Marc Conrad is a film, television and multi-platform producer, and the Director of ConradFilm.
Born in 1960 in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Marc attended the Athénée Royale in Luxembourg, before studying Communication Science at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. In his first industry roles, Marc worked for the French/Luxembourg television station RTL, RTLRadio, and the Luxembourg daily newspaper Journal. In 1983, he saw a once in a lifetime opportunity and took it, helping to launch Germany’s first ever commercial TV station RTL Plus, as News Editor. In 1987 he became Managing Editor, RTL News, before rising to overall Programme Director for RTL in 1994.
In this role, Marc and his team established scheduling models which continue to shape primetime television in Europe today. During his tenure, he launched current affairs formats including Explosiv: Das Magazin and Exclusiv: Das Starmagazin, became a pioneer of German soaps such as Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten, Unter Uns and Hinter Gittern, created daily chat shows Hans Meiser and Ilona Christen, and launched comedy series including Sieben Tage, Sieben Köpfe, RTL Samstag Nacht and FreitagNachtNews. Within five years Marc had made RTL Europe’s No.1 TV station.
In 1999, Marc left RTL to set up his own production company, ConradFilm. His first feature was the highly-acclaimed Das Experiment, remade in the US with Forest Whitaker and Adrien Brody. For the TV series Abschnitt 40, Marc received the Outstanding European Producer of the Year award at the 2003 Monte-Carlo Television Festival, as well as the Deutscher Fernsehpreis‘ Best Series award from 2003 to 2005, for his achievements as a creator and producer.
ConradFilm has continued to deliver a string of German TV hits like the highly-acclaimed crime series Im Angesicht des Verbrechens, Die Dienstagsfrauen, Das Programm, Gottlos and Katharina Luther. The mini-series Dark Woods was the highest-rated German fiction program of 2020 and was awarded three Gold Awards at the New York Film Festival 2022. A new series Sonderlage, starts in February 2023 on RTL.
Marc is a member of the International Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences, the German Film Academy, the European Film Academy, and the German Producers Alliance. He was also a longtime board member of both Highlight Communications AG – supporting its IPO and acquisition of TEAM Marketing, the company responsible for the UEFA Champions League – and also the German production giant Constantin Film AG.
Marc has published two books about film, drama and psychology, working alongside Professors Wilhelm Salber and Dirk Blothner: Goethe zum Film: Morphologische Markt und Medienpsychologie (Bouvier Verlag, 2006) and Invasion! TV Muster erobern den Fernsehmarkt (Bouvier Verlag, 2008). His passion for storytelling, and for exploring and reinventing all genres and media continues.
